SOWATCO Tri Phuong Port (Bac Ninh) has officially commenced its export customs code operations, providing an inland customs clearance solution that optimizes costs, saves time, and promotes green waterway logistics.

On January 8, 2024, in Bac Ninh, Southern Waterborne Transport Corporation (SOWATCO) successfully held the ceremony announcing Decision No. 2998/QD-CHL, officially recognizing Tri Phuong – Bac Ky International Inland Container Port (ICD Tri Phuong) as a site for gathering, inspection, and customs supervision. According to this decision, the export customs code at SWC Tri Phuong port officially comes into operation. Customs officers will work directly at the port to receive files, inspect, supervise, and process procedures in accordance with current regulations.

The opening of the export customs code at SWC Tri Phuong provides a new choice for partners and shippers located near key industrial parks in Bac Ninh province, such as Tien Son, Dai Dong – Hoan Sơn, and surrounding areas. At SWC Tri Phuong, conducting inspections or sealing at the port wharf area creates favorable conditions for quick vessel release, shortens transport time by road and waterway in the customers’ logistics chain.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Thu Huong – Deputy Director of Customs Branch Area 05, stated: “The opening of the export processing point at Tri Phuong Port today is one of the important preparatory steps, contributing to increasing practical benefits and minimizing transport pressure, while supporting businesses in the concentrated cluster in the coming time. SOTRANS Group in general and SOWATCO Tri Phuong in particular have prepared very methodically in terms of infrastructure, human resources, and management systems, fully meeting legal requirements to be recognized as a centralized site for gathering, inspection, and customs supervision.”

The difference of SWC Tri Phuong is the presence of customs officers working directly at the port, helping businesses be more proactive in customs clearance time and reducing costs related to international transport at gathering points. With the advantage of being close to manufacturing enterprises, completing procedures at the collection point within the province will help reduce steps at customs yards near seaports. In the context of high container road transport costs, the transportation option connecting Tri Phuong with Hai Phong – Lach Huyen by large vessels is now well-implemented, potentially helping businesses save about 30% in transport costs compared to pure road transport.

For transport operators, forwarders, and cargo, this new processing point will help reduce congestion at main seaports and decrease dependence on vehicle prohibition hours in major cities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dang Thanh – Group COO of SOTRANS Group, emphasized: “We always strive our best to improve service quality and focus on infrastructure investment to provide the best logistics services to our customers and partners.”

In 2023, the cargo throughput at the port’s wharf reached 68,315 TEUs, equivalent to 100% of the plan; with the newly operated export customs code, the current capacity is 120 TEUs per trip with the ability to simultaneously accommodate 520 TEUs.

In 2024, SWC Tri Phuong plans to continue investing in expanding operational capacity, including: installing a 2.2-hectare yard power system, a 250m wharf to accommodate 3 to 4 barges at the same time, installing 2 more specialized cranes, and designing larger capacity barges. Along with that, the port will complete procedures to be granted ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.

With this decision, the export customs code at SOWATCO Tri Phuong Port is now operational.
